My First Musicretailer.blog Editorial

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. One thing I always prided myself on as editor of the Music & Sound Retailer was honesty, and talking directly to you, the reader. So, I am going to be honest here: No longer being able to serve you as editor of a magazine has been tough. It means the end of several popular features and columnists.

Being a magazine editor is what I truly enjoyed, and having it taken away is brutal. It sends you on an emotional roller coaster. I have spent a lot more time on LinkedIn for starters. I have also spent more time with my children, which is wonderful, and you learn a different perspective on life, regarding what is important. But no matter how successful the magazine is, a lot of negative thoughts cross your mind: Is it a reflection on me? Will I get another job? Will it be in the music industry? Will I make a difference if and when I do get a job?

It is a tug-of-war of emotions with the positive thoughts that follow: I know I am talented. I WILL get another job. I will make a difference. It may or may not be in the music industry.

No matter what, my way to stay in MI is this website. I try to never ask too much of my readers. I never thought it was my place. But I do hope you will visit the website and tell others in the industry. I also hope that we get a few advertisers to support the website, and I hope you will click on their banner ads once they do. This site is not about breaking the bank in any way. On the contrary, it is much more about sustenance.

In the meantime, I will bring you whatever news and information I can. I will also look into the possibility of future interviews that many of you said you enjoyed, be it video chats or podcasts. In sum, I hope you can support the website. There are now only two physical trade magazines serving MI, so if I can be an additional resource, I will do my best.

I want to conclude by thanking everyone who helped me along the way when I was editor of the Retailer, including many retailers, manufacturers and NAMM. I could not have done it without you. I truly cherish the fact that I got to see many of you at Summer NAMM in July. Serving MI has been an absolute pleasure.

I hope this is not the end of the story, but simply a new chapter.
