Chick Music, which served the Athens, Georgia, community since 1942, has closed, the retailer confirmed on social media. The reason for the closure is owners Billy Shepherd and his wife retiring.
The store dates back to when Lewis Chick opened Chick Music, then Chick Piano, in 1942. Billy Shepherd joined the staff in 1947 and the Shepherd family purchased the store in 1963.
“We stand behind what we sell, and I think that’s very important as far as dealing with local businesses, as opposed to something on the internet,” son Steve Shepherd told Flagpole. “People come in with the off-brand instruments they bought on the internet, and we can’t fix them.”
